Check any song for copyright risk
Upload an audio file or video. Tonr fingerprints it against 70 million copyrighted songs and tells you if it will trigger a Content ID claim, takedown, or mute.
MP3, WAV, MP4, MOV. Up to 50MB.
What is a copyright checker??
A copyright checker is an online tool that analyzes an audio file by creating an acoustic fingerprint and comparing it against a database of millions of registered copyrighted songs. It tells you whether your track matches existing copyrighted material and identifies the specific song, artist, and rights information. Creators use copyright checkers before publishing videos to avoid Content ID claims, platform takedowns, and legal disputes.

How the copyright checker works
Upload your audio or video
Drag and drop an MP3, WAV, MP4, or MOV file up to 50MB. Tonr handles both audio only files and video files by extracting the audio track automatically.
Acoustic fingerprinting
Tonr slices your audio into multiple 15 second windows distributed across the file and creates acoustic fingerprints, unique mathematical representations of the sound that ignore format, bitrate, and minor noise.
Match against 70M+ songs
Each fingerprint is compared against ACRCloud's global database of over 70 million copyrighted tracks including major label catalogs (Universal, Sony, Warner) and independent publishers.
Get your result in seconds
If no match is found, you are clear to publish. If a match is found, Tonr shows you the exact track, artist, confidence percentage, and platform specific risk. You also get similar safe alternatives from our library.
Safe to publish on every platform
YouTube
Content ID claims
Automated claims can demonetize your video in seconds. Our checker catches matches before upload.
Audio muting and takedowns
Reels and Stories get muted or removed when copyrighted audio is detected. Check first.
TikTok
Video muting
TikTok's system flags copyrighted audio fast. A single match can kill a video's reach entirely.
Twitch
VOD muting and strikes
Stream VODs get muted in sections with copyrighted music. Three strikes can end your channel.
Common questions
How is this different from YouTube's Content ID system?
YouTube's Content ID tells you there is a problem after you upload. Tonr tells you before you edit. If you check a track and it clears, you can edit with confidence. If it flags, you can replace it with a safe alternative before you spend hours on the edit.
Does the checker support all audio formats?
Yes. Tonr accepts MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC for audio, and MP4, MOV, WebM for video. The fingerprint extraction normalizes the audio regardless of format, bitrate, or codec, so you get the same accurate result.
What is the difference between a Content ID claim and a copyright strike?
A Content ID claim is automated: your video stays up but ad revenue goes to the rights holder. A copyright strike is a manual takedown request that can remove your video and, after three strikes, terminate your channel. Tonr helps you avoid both.
Can I check a song I downloaded from a stock library?
Yes. Even stock library tracks can trigger false Content ID matches if the composition is similar to existing copyrighted work. Checking before publishing adds an extra layer of safety, regardless of source.
Do you store my uploaded files?
No. Files uploaded to the copyright checker are processed in memory, fingerprinted, and discarded. Tonr does not retain your uploads or add them to any database. Your music stays yours.
